Thanks Will. I believe I did go to Bic. That's the store with multiple levels of electronics, photo gear, etc. right? Or maybe I'm confusing it with some of the others I went to in Akihabara.

Class shot of the International forum, love the low angle you went for, most people go for the high angle but I prefer looking up, gives a nice idea about the scale with the people in the foreground.

Did you nip into Bic camera across the road afterwards for a play with the cameras? I can't go past it without going in....

Excellent shot and write up, really good insight into the place and also very topical at the moment as there is talk of greatly reducing blue fin tuna fishing so that stocks can be repleted as they have been over fished. People in Japan aren't happy about it.

Yeah, you have to get there very early to see the auctions. I've done it a couple of times over the years, you either have to drive there very early, or stay in a cafe nearby, so you always get there feeling very tired. The early morning is more chaotic, little carts move around really quickly, it's kind of dangerous actually, the workers aren't really happy about the tourists hanging about and some don't like to slow down and accidents happen a fair bit...ouch.

Really nice sense of depth in this shot, it gives a really good insight into what Nakamise dori is really like. Asakusa is one of my favourite places in Tokyo, so much packed into that old part of time.

Yes Rob, you are right, photography should be about fun and experimentation. When I started out using film I did things like cross processing and dipping negatives in corrosive chemicals to make what I thought was interesting images, then I would have editors tell me it was unusable shit, so I guess ai got into the way of thinking too much about "usable" images rather than interesting techniques. Apologies if I come over a bit harsh sometimes, also hope I didn't cause offense with my statements about f 1.8 50mm lenses, as you said, they are sharp and very light which is a big plus considering the cost of them.

Thanks Will. I am not a fan of selective colour typically, but in this case the reds really stood out and the other colours just added complexity so I figured I'd give it a try. And besides, what is photography without a little experimentation, eh? :-)

Really nice shot showing the scale of the Daibutsu, glad you made the malt of your trip here and traveled about a lot. Kamakura is my favourite spot for a day out from Tokyo, I blogged about it a few months back as well. Great place. I am really enjoying your Japan series.

Really nice shot of Shinjuku in the rain. It's very atmospheric. Your edit leaving some aspects of the photo in red makes certain elements stand out, but you already have a good shot so don't be afraid to leave it as colour only or B&W only. The people with the umbrellas, the bicycles by the side of the street, the reflection on the wet street, a powerful image in itself without the tweeks of an edit.
